Brigade
Materials: Food packaging, wallpaper
Brigade is a series of origami style sculptures replicating the chef hat/masks worn in my performances but only half the size. They are a combination of ‘historic’ wallpaper and highly designed and aesthetic food packaging. As an ongoing series currently numbering 150 they are also a response to the idea that mundane routine and materials are meaningful because they help shape underlying contrasts observed through ritual in the analysis of everyday life. Wallpaper lines interiors; conversely food packaging enshrouds the rawness or freshness of food from the corruption of the outside, drawing awareness to the symbolic associations to skin and masking. Brigade embodies diverse time / design elements, thereby referencing late twentieth- twenty first century approaches to taste, fashion and appropriation.
